Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, and macOS Tahoe 26.4. While mid-cycle updates usually focus on minor bug fixes, this release is packed with highly requested features, essential security upgrades, and some clever new AI tools.
Whether you are listening to music, browsing the web, or just sending a text, this update changes how you interact with your Apple devices. Here is everything you need to know about the latest software drop.

Apple Music Gets an AI Brain
The absolute standout feature of iOS 26.4 is Playlist Playground. Powered by Apple Intelligence, this tool completely changes how you build playlists.
Instead of manually searching for and adding tracks one by one, you simply type a prompt. Ask for “late-night electronic with no vocals” or “80s goth rock,” and Apple Music will instantly generate a custom mix based on your mood. While it is currently only on iPhone and iPad, it is a fantastic way to discover new music or set the vibe in seconds.
Safari’s Best Layout Returns
If you use a Mac or an iPad, Apple finally listened to your feedback. When macOS Tahoe and iPadOS 26 originally launched, Apple removed Safari’s popular compact tab bar.
The outcry from users was loud, and with the 26.4 update, the feature is officially back. You can jump into your System Settings right now and switch back to the condensed, space-saving layout that merges your address bar and active tabs into a single, clean row.
Smarter Security and Health Tracking
Apple is taking the guesswork out of device security. Stolen Device Protection, which prevents thieves from locking you out of your Apple ID if they steal your phone and passcode, is now turned on by default in iOS 26.4.
On the wellness side, the Health app is getting a welcome tweak. Blood Oxygen data has returned to the Vitals overview, making it much easier to see your key health metrics at a glance. You will also notice a new Sleep Highlight section that breaks down your bedtime trends over the past two weeks.
Fresh Emojis and Better Podcasts
Finally, no iOS update is complete without new ways to text. The keyboard now features eight new emojis, including a highly anticipated “distorted face,” a fight cloud, a treasure chest, and a trombone.
For podcast fans, Apple Podcasts now supports high-quality HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) for video. This means you can seamlessly switch between watching and listening without missing a beat, even on cellular data.
The update is live globally right now. Head over to Settings > General > Software Update to upgrade your devices. Are you trying the AI playlists first, or checking out the new emojis?
